Mental Training
“During visualization you are essentially priming the muscles for the task ahead.”
-Kenneth Braum
Visualizing an outstanding performance puts you on the fast track for a great outcome. Research and science show that when athletes incorporate visualization into their practice, they consistently outperform those who only practice their sport physically.
The process is quite simple. Sit or lie down and put yourself in a relaxed frame of mind. Close your eyes and breathe naturally.
Imagine yourself at a pool table working on a shot and visualize every detail. See the balls and hear the sounds as they collide and the object ball drops into the pocket.
Listen for any other sounds in the room like music or conversation. Can you smell the chalk dust? How does the texture of the table cloth feel beneath your fingers?
Details matter because they activate all your senses. More importantly, they speak directly to the subconscious.
Many world-class athletes use this simple technique daily, especially just prior to a performance event. It works for them and it can work for you. So why not try it? Find a safe place, set aside a quiet moment, enter your private movie theater and practice mentally. Make every ball!
