INCREASE THE ODDS
“You aim at the right or left part of the hole, not giving the hole away.”
-Mike Sigel
There’s an aiming technique used by many top professionals that increases the chances of pocketing balls cut into the corner pocket. It’s an ideal system for medium angle cuts, especially when exact position is not a major concern.
Aim to contact the object ball a little full and use a touch of outside english. You are undercutting the ball, but the english will throw it into the center of the pocket.
On a cut shot to the left, for example, aim the object ball towards the far right side of the pocket. The outside english will pocket it somewhere near the middle of the pocket. If you undercut the ball more than planned, the english still throws it into the extreme right side of the pocket.
If you overcut the ball, it enters the extreme left side of the pocket. Hit it exactly as intended and the throw puts it dead center.
As with all shots played with english, speed and spin introduces a mix that takes careful practice to master. Use medium to soft speed with about a half a tip of outside english for consistent results.
Aim towards the part of the pocket farthest from you and use outside english.
