Give It Time
“Although his thinking mind had switched…his body was still running the old image.”
- Joseph Parent
When you change your from one shot to another, your body needs time to make the adjustment. Your mind can shift gears instantly, but your body needs time to prepare for a different plan.
Preparing for a shot requires a clear visual image along with a physical sense that everything is right. Part of the shot process is sending the right information to the body so it can execute what is intended.
If you are on a shot and suddenly decide to change from follow to draw, it’s critical that you take some time to prepare for that shift.
This can seem like a waste of time, but your body needs all the steps in the right sequence, with an appropriate amount of time to make it happen. It needs a little time.
Create a standard routine for recovering from a sudden loss of shot commitment. Keep it simple and make it a habit. Whenever you change your mind, make a point of going through your entire shot routine again.
By starting again, you are also giving your subconscious mind a few crucial seconds to clear the image of the old shot and to formulate the new shot.
