Fun
“Stay out of the pool room kid, or all you'll ever have is fun.”
-William Kennedy
When you enjoy yourself playing pool, excellence tags along like a shadow. When pool is fun and exciting, you always play your best. It's as if your body is saying, "Hey, this feels great!" Then it rewards you with some free-stroking.
The truth is that to do well at anything you have to enjoy it; otherwise, why do it? So before a competition have a little chat with yourself. Say something like, "Go out there and have fun!"
Put your best effort into playing well, but make having fun the priority. Your best play comes when you're caught up in winning or losing.
When you stop being too serious and focus on having a good time, you'll get over mistakes quicker. Don't be afraid to show a little humor when you compete; it lightens the moment and helps create an atmosphere of fun and enjoyment.
One surefire way to get more joy and satisfaction from the game is to place fewer demands on the results.
Allow yourself the wonder of being completely absorbed in the game. Pay attention, but laugh at your thoughts and outcomes. Play each shot to the very best of your ability and have fun!
